↑Past continuousа) Утвердительные формы:Утвердительные формы Past continuous образуются путем прибавления к вспомогательному глаголу be в прошедшем времени (was/were) причастия настоящего времени (Present participle).I was working.
При построении общего вопроса вспомогательный глагол be в прошедшем времени ставится перед подлежащим (Subject) предложения.he working?в) Отрицательные формы:Отрицательные предложения образуются путем прибавления к вспомогательному глаголу be в прошедшем времени отрицательной частицы not/ n't.We weren't working
а) Past continuous используется при описании действия, которое находилось в процессе развития в некоторый момент времени в прошлом.He was reading a book at 5 o'clock — Он читал книгу в 5 часов (начал читать до пяти часов и в пять часов все еще читал).
I was cooking the dinner — Я готовил обед (Я находился в процессе готовки).
б) Past continuous часто используют при описании действия или события, на фоне или в процессе развития которого произошло некоторое другое событие.He hurt his leg while he was playing football — Он ушиб ногу, когда играл в футбол.
It was raining when I arrived — Когда я пришел, шел дождь.
3) Об употреблении Past continuous для обозначения будущего времени в прошедшем см. Future in the past.4) Past continuous употребляется в условных придаточных предложениях (см. В предложении оно может быть опущено (хотя и подразумевается) и в этих случаях остается предлог (второе as), который в предложении неударен:He is deaf as his grandfather — Он (такой же) глухой, как и его дед.
(2). Наречный оборот as… as употребляется только с прилагательными и наречиями. Во всех других случаях подобие передается предлогом like: to swim like a fish, to behave like a child, to draw like a real artist — плавать как рыба, вести себя как ребенок, рисовать как настоящий художник. (3). As 2. употребляется также в другом обороте as… as, но в этом случае второе as — союз, который вводит предложение:As far as he knows — Насколько ему известно.
As much as you like — Сколько хотите.
He looks as ill as he sounded on the phone — На вид он столь же болен, как и казался, когда говорил по телефону.
II prp 1. как, в качестве (часто переводится формой творительного падежа); 2. подобно Русское как имеет два значения как, подобно и как, в качестве и может соответствовать английскому предлогу as, который имеет эти же два значения, и предлогу like, который имеет только значение подобия. Оба английских предлога часто сочетаются с существительными, обозначающими род занятий, но в этих случаях as чаще выступает в значении в качестве:He worked as a teacher — Он работал/был учителем.
As a teacher he is very strict — Он очень строгий учитель.
He acts as a manager — Он исполняет функции менеджера.
He speaks as an adult — Он говорит как взрослый.
He satisfies me as a secretary — Как секретарем я им доволен. Ср. He speaks like a teacher — Он разговаривает как учитель (он не учитель, но у него манеры учителя).

I remembered her name as I left — Уже выходя (когда я почти вышел), я вспомнил, как ее зовут.
В этих случаях союз when будет обозначать уже полностью законченное действие — Я вспомнил, когда уже вышел. While в этом случае будет подчеркивать длительность, незавершенность действия — Я вспомнил, когда выходил.(2). Значение подобия такой как, так как передается в английском при помощи союза as 3. и предлога like. Like — предлог, образующий предложную группу с последующим существительным или местоимением:Like me, she enjoys music — Как и я, она любит музыку.
He cried like a child — Он плакал как ребенок.
As — союз, вводящий придаточное предложение, и не употребляется для сравнения двух существительных:She enjoys music (just) as I do.
В разговорной речи like часто используется как союз вместо as:Nobody understands him like (as) his mother does — Никто не понимает его так, как его мать.
